“Boys” Night Out On American Idol-A Big Winner!

American Idol “boys’” opening night was a real winner. The finalist twelve guys for the 2008 show did their thing tonight. American Idol, always entertaining, definitely had a few stars in the making.

David Hernandez launched the evening of song and sexy male performers. Simon Cowell let him know “the beginning was great” and his performance of “Wait Till the Midnight Hour” really did have a great beginning

“Chaquzzi, Chakoozie, Jacuzzi, NO, Chikesie Eze! Simon butchered his name. He did it in an Oops, cute way though. Simon’s faux pas will actually help everyone remember Chikesie. Along with the name rhyme game, his orange suit made him stand out in a crowd. Chikesie took the comments gracefully and seemed to understand the mistake was unintentional.

David Cook, was a treat to see perform and a real crowd pleaser. He was a little nasal though singing his choice, Happy Together. Jason Yeager has very nice voice. Unfortunately, his plain vanilla performance put me in mind of the 1950’s performer Pat Boone.

Jason was followed by “Rocker” Robbie Carrico who knew how to grab the crowd right away with Three Dog’s Night hit tune, One Is The Loneliest Number. Randy Jackson told him “nice version, you moved me
baby!” Simon thought his performance was the “only current performance”.

The cuddly cute 17 year old David Archuleta was super excited and giddy after he heard the Judges’ remarks. “Really brilliant” from Randy, “brave and bold” from Paula Abdul and then the mind blower. Simon stated that David’s was the “best performance of the night”, then added “so far”.

Danny Noriega was not so lucky! Simon went so far as to say his “performance verging bordering on grotesque”. Personally, I liked him. He didn’t do as well as Elvis Presley singing Jailhouse Rock for sure but, he had stage presence. After all, who could beat the King at his own game? It was an odd choice though since it was a hit in 1957 and not the 1960s.

Sadly, the hunk Luke Menard too was unimpressive with his too soft, high voice. He said, “This is a chance of a lifetime”. I sure hope he doesn’t blow it too early

Ryan Seacrest felt that Paula should get the “patience award” after Simon’s constant interruptions and disrespect for her opinions. Sorry Simon, please let Paula give her opinion. Simon, treated her like she was his annoying wife, shortly before the divorce.

Colton Berry is so cute and he realizes that being on stage on American Idol is his “biggest dream” and it is “all I’ve ever wanted”.

Garrett Haley, though cute with some star qualities, was about the worse performance of the evening. I hope all the young girls in America don’t keep him in based on his pretty hair.

The show line-up ended with the Australian export talent of Michael Johns who really “lit my fire”! He is tall, dark and HOT! He asks us to “…judge me on my voice.” I hope I can keep my mind on his singing! He has a wonderful voice, though his accent tends to be tiny bit off-putting while singing an American 60’s pop song. During the audition phase however, he really showed his outstanding talent and range.

Well, the girls have their night tomorrow. I look forward to it, since there's a ton of female talent on-board too.
